Agricultural Markets Development Trust (AMDT) has been recently established in Tanzania by the governments of Denmark, Ireland, Sweden and Switzerland through their development agencies. The AMDT aims to support better coordination between value chain development initiatives, enhance and improve the understanding of agricultural market systems, improve productivity and market access for micro, small and medium enterprises, maximise the impact of programmes, and more effectively contribute to reducing poverty in Tanzania.
The AMDT seeks to recruit several Market System Managers. This is an exciting opportunity for highly motivated and result-driven professionals with expertise in agriculture value chains and leadership experience in developing the targeted crops (Sunflower, Maize and Pulses).
Market Systems Manager – 3 posts (Ref. No. AMDT/MSM/02/15)

Position Summary
Reporting to the Technical Director, the job holder(s) will be responsible for the quality of market systems analysis and intervention design in the selected value chains, and assist in the correct utilization of research results to deepen the understanding of how market systems work and how AMDT benefit to growth.

Key Responsibilities
• Manage a portfolio of agricultural, industrial and service sector interventions to generate pro-poor growth in a sustainable and most effective and efficient manner across the country
• Screen project proposals and manage partnerships with key stakeholders in the value chain
• Manage capacity building initiatives for partner organizations
• Manage, conduct or support all research efforts needed for the functioning of AMDT
• Conduct in-house market systems analysis on the sector, value chains, and the supporting industries and services around them to identify constraints to growth, using the making markets work (M4P) approach
• Together with the management team, design sector growth strategies
• Identify potential strategic partners in the private and public sector to trigger innovative business practices to reduce constraints and unlock growth potential in a systemic and sustainable manner
• Inculcate a culture of continuous learning and honest inquiry in relation to the understanding of market systems
• Design key performance indicators, monitor and evaluate implementation of strategic focus areas and their resultant outcomes.

The successful candidate will need to possess the following key competencies:
• Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of the M4P approach, including market systems analysis, sector strategy creation and intervention design, and a strong track record in M4P implementation
• A proven ability to constructively engage with the private and public sector and manage partnerships
• Experience in leading, managing and mentoring teams
• Experience in Agricultural program management
• Strong experience in research and analysis
• Solid experience in monitoring and evaluation
• Evidence of strong communication, writing, numeracy, analysis and networking skills
• Ability to tap into international networks related to private sector development.

Key Qualifications
• A Master’s Degree in Developmental Economics, Agri-business, Business Administration or related field
• A minimum of least 7 years of relevant working experience of which 3 years should be in senior leadership role
• Experience in both the public and private sector and a good mix of local and international experience will be an added advantage
• Working experience in Sunflower, Maize and Pulses crop will be an added advantage.
