Reporting to the Principal TIRE and the entity Heads of the School of Nursing & Midwifery and Postgraduate Medical Education, the Marketing and Communications Manager will play a key role in developing and implementing the Marketing and Communications Strategy.
The candidate will have experience in conducting promotional activities in an international development organization or within the higher education sector in East Africa and will have been used to working with a range of media for the purposes of promotion, advocacy and fundraising.
Key Responsibilities and Functions:
• Development and implementation of the AKU-TIRE Marketing and Communications strategy in collaboration with the office of the Director, lED & SONAM
• Develop marketing material and ensure that all content meets accuracy, consistency and University style requirements and the visuals, branding guidelines
• Be responsible for the creation of timely marketing materials to support all programmes and research promotion
• Ensure the effective utilization of the marketing mix including events, online and offline promotion, direct mail, PR etc.
• Update and implement the communications strategy in line with the umbrella communications strategy of the University
• Write material for Internal and University-wide publications and for specific target audiences
• Maintain relations with select print, broadcast and electronic media to promote the University’s work
• Conduct market research where required and track trends and analyse the competition to inform recruitment strategies
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of all marketing activities and campaigns
• Line-manage the Web officer to ensure that relevant sections on the website are update and refreshed regularly-
• Prepare and manage the marketing budgets, monitor expenditure within these and to deliver financial results

Applicant profile
Essential
• A relevant degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related qualification
• A minimum of3 years’ experience of working in the charity/development sector or higher education sector in East Africa and have an understanding of how to develop effective promotional material and conduct PR activities
• Proven ability to design and execute marketing and communication campaigns with measurable results
• Strong interpersonal skills, good communication skills and excellent organizational skills, with the ability to build good external relationships
• Strong IT skills: MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), email (Outlook),
CMS and experience in digital marketing
• Experience of using marketing databases for communications activities
• Exceptional English and Kiswahili communication skills: oral and written
Ability to work autonomously with a professional approach
• Strong commitment to working in a multicultural environment that fosters diversity
