Program Associate – Dar Es Salaam – Asylum Access

The Program Associate is an ideal opportunity for a candidate with experience in research, monitoring and evaluation, a can-do attitude, and strong problem solving skills, who is moderately tech-savvy and has passion for human rights.
The PA will collaborate with the Strategy and Operations Director in developing content for and promoting the use of the Refugee Rights Toolkit — an online platform that allows lawyers and activists in any country to use and adapt Asylum Access’s tools to transform the human rights landscape for refugees.
The PA will also support the Strategy and Operations Director in the development and management of tools and systems that assist with programmatic monitoring and evaluation and grant reporting.
Working in the Asylum Access Tanzania office, the PA will have exposure to our work on the ground and will learn first-hand about the challenges and opportunities of global human rights advocacy, management and growth. The PA will be a key player in our efforts to turn human rights from paper promises into daily reality for some of the world’s most vulnerable people: 16 million refugees.

Key Responsibilities
Toolkit Development and User Support: The PA will develop content for Asylum Access’s Refugee Rights Toolkit by researching best practices in legal aid, community legal empowerment, strategic litigation, and policy advocacy, and incorporating lessons learned by our overseas offices staff. Additionally, the PA will manage Asylum Access’s mentoring relationships with pilot users, coordinate Asylum Access staff-pilot user trainings, answer questions about the platform, and gather and incorporate critical user feedback.
Program Monitoring and Evaluation: In collaboration with the Strategy and Operations Director, revise and maintain the monitoring and evaluation systems for our overseas offices. This includes developing systems and tools that help staff achieve programmatic goals and meet grant reporting needs. It also includes supporting our legal aid database through training staff and volunteer lawyers on system use, troubleshooting database challenges, and ensuring continued database usability.
Alumni Network Management and Development: The PA will manage and develop Asylum Access’s growing alumni network. This will include the creation and distribution of Asylum Access’s monthly alumni newsletter and the development of additional alumni network initiatives.
Learning Initiatives and Staff Trainings: The PA will assist in coordinating Asylum Access’s annual planning process, ensuring each office and/or department establishes yearly SMART objectives. The PA will be responsible for helping to monitor progress on goals, identifying areas of success as well as potential obstacles for achieving stated grant deliverables. Additionally, the PA may assist in coordinating global staff trainings and learning initiatives. This includes the development of training content and the management of logistics for all meeting attendants.
