POSITION OVERVIEW
The role of this position is to perform all underground geotechnical inspections/audits to ensure compliance to support standards as stipulated in the Ground Control Management Plan
To conduct routine paste borehole inspections, pull tests of installed support, paste piping and support inspections and to provide geotechnical recommendations where required. All geotechnical activities carried out should cause minimal interrupt to production work and be carried out safety
Reporting Line: Geotechnical Engineer
Rotation status: 42 days on; 21 days off
Location: Bulyahulu Gold Mine; Kahama District; Shinyanga Region
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Conduct ground condition an support installation inspections/ audits to ensure compliance to support standards
• Conduct pre-stopping audit reports to accompany mining instructions
• Conduct routine down-hole borehole survey of paste holes and report on observe conditions
• Conduct weekly pull tests on installed support to ensure that the support conforms to the required anchor capacity and to ensure that the number of pull tests compliance with the 1% as stipulated in the Ground Control Management Plan
• Conduct mapping and core logging and updating of the geotechnical model database with this information
• Identifying and reporting any substandard performances and/or behavior with regards to ground support
• Ensure adherence to geotechnical standards operating procedures and all relevant company procedures
• Provide ground control training for induction and ganger courses
• Collect ground monitoring data and keep accurate records
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL DETAILS
Education
• Diploma in Mining Engineering/Geology or equivalent
• Be willing to study to obtain the Chamber of Mines (South Africa) Strata Control Certificate
Experience and Skills
• Must have a valid Tanzania driving license and able to drive a light vehicle in underground environment
• Must have sufficient communication skills
• Able to maintain accurate records and reports
• Ability to interpret mine layouts
• Must have working knowledge of MS Office suite of computer programs
• Mining experience will be an added advantage
• Knowledge of any relevant geotechnical engineering during and after obtaining formal education
• Knowledge of underground mapping and core logging techniques
• Proficiency in mine design software, Mine CAD
• Physical fitness so as to be able to work in an underground mining environment
• Work under minimal supervision
• Committed to quality service to all customers
