Climate Change Programme Adviser – Dar es salaam – Uk Department For International Development

The post holder will work closely with the DFID Tanzania Climate and Energy Adviser to develop the new ICF funded programmes on climate change, with a specific responsibility of the work on institutional strengthening. The post holder will work closely with Government of Tanzania (Vice Presidents Office/Ministry of Finance and lor Planning Commission) and Zanzibar to coordinate activities linked to implementation of the national climate change, support the establishment of a climate change financing mechanism and lead on behalf of development partners the dialogue on Climate Change.

Key responsibilities include
• Providing technical support to the Government of Tanzania in designing mechanisms to implement a national climate change strategy.
• Leading the development partner/Government of Tanzania and Zanzibar’ dialogue on climate change.
• Leading on DFID Tanzania achieving “gold status” in its work on climate change through strategic climate programme review (SPR).
• Working closely with DFID’s project managers, to ensure that there is effective monitoring and support to projects, and that optimal results and value for money are achieved’.

Skills and qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in an area relevant to climate change and development e.g.
climate science, economics, environment, environmental technology, geography, development studies, political science or related field.
• Experience in climate change, environment and natural resource management sector in Tanzania.

Compensation package:
The salary for this post is TZS 4,470,056 – 6,251,994, possibly more for a more experienced candidate + 10% matching contribution to a local pension fund and medical insurance. Appointment will be under local terms and conditions will be subject to medical and security clearance.
