Wildlife Protection Specialist – Dar es salaam – International Resources Group Ltd

Responsibilities
• Support the use of SMART technologies to combat poaching and wildlife trafficking by relevant wildlife authorities through LTTA/STTA contributions to proof of concept demonstration projects, feasibility studies, and scale-up.
• Perform an assessment of the full range of anti-poaching and wildlife trafficking technologies and analytical tools and techniques that exist and make recommendations on their relevance to Tanzania.
• Assist in the design and implementation of an innovation fund activity that will target local innovations in anti-poaching tools and techniques and will elicit solutions and ideas from Tanzania women and youth in particular.
• Expand and deepen the range of actors and methods involved in anti-poaching and anti-trafficking activities with an emphasis on promising technology. Proof of concept and efforts that have clear learning and sustainability objectives.
• Train government and non-government officials and workers including customs agents on new technologies to detect trafficked wildlife products including standards of use and maintenance.
• Through LTTA/STTA, support the development of an interagency wildlife trafficking intelligence facility or command center that will provide up to date collection and analysis tools to permit joints sharing of information, planning, and interdiction operations.
• Draw upon experts, innovations, and networks identified in the Wildlife Trafficking Technology Challenge connecting USAID Tanzania PROTECT with WTTC and broader communities of practice to enhance knowledge management including, but not limited to USAID`s FRAME Web and other similar platforms.
• Support the establishment and implementation of surveillance and analysis programs that can be sustained by GOT and other anti-poaching and wildlife trafficking organizations in Tanzania if Supported by USAID.

In addition, the wildlife protection Specialist shall support utilization of geographic information system and decision support system software to visualize, analyze, and interpret data to support not only Component 4, but all other project components to understand patterns and trends in poaching and wildlife trafficking activities as well as other cross-cutting areas as applicable.

Qualifications
• Minimum of 5 years of managerial and technical experience supporting biodiversity conservation and combating wildlife trafficking and poaching.
• Experience developing and evaluating information communications technology and solutions aimed to improve wildlife conservation and protected area management.
• Experience using Geographic information System (GIS) as a data collection and analysis tool.
• Experience working with protected area authorities and wildlife ministries.
• Bachelor`s Degree or equivalent in environmental or ecological sciences, environmental law, enforcement.
• USAID donor experience, a plus.
• Must be fluent in English with strong report writing ability.
