Junior Socio-Economic Research Consultant – DPC

Work Description
DPC is looking for a researcher with theoretical and practical knowledge in applied socio-economic research methodologies. As a junior research consultant at DPC, you will collaborate as a team member in different research projects with the objective to manage an entire research cycle and lead research projects independently. This includes the following activities:

developing research objectives and research protocols
proposing a suitable mix of socio- economic research methods (qualitative and quantitative) to collect empirical data
designing data collection instruments
planning and preparing for fieldwork and the data collection exercise
overseeing data collection and processing
analyzing data and preparing research reports and the analysis of research findings

You adhere to internationally acknowledged research ethics and standards and deploy them with the DPC team. You will work closely with DPC management ensuring the smooth implementation of projects according to plans and timelines. You enjoy working with web based applications and instruments, and ideally (not required) have programming skills and enjoying working deploying technological innovations.

Responsibilities:
participate as a team member in different research projects and implements different phases of a research cycle
acquire technology skills for online collaboration (project management through teamwork and Google), design data collection instruments, mind mapping, data analysis and data display
acquire process oriented skills to master an entire research cycle
make him/herself familiar with the socio-economic particularities in carrying out research in Tanzania and East Africa
independently complete phases of the research cycle
work in accordance with timelines and projects plans
suggest new and innovative research methods and approaches

Required Qualifications:

Graduate or Postgraduate academic degree in a socio-economic discipline or related field
Proven research experience
Experience with qualitative research methodologies and analysis
Experience with quantitative research methodologies and analysis
excellent and proven interpersonal skills (e.g. communication, leadership, cultural) including the ability to effectively motivate a team and to diplomatically manage the relationship with local partners, different authorities and donors
prepared to work and live with limited resources and under difficult circumstances;
able to work under pressure and tight deadlines
fluency in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills

Assets
Knowledge of STATA or R-package
Knowledge in Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
Applied research in Africa , including project cycle management, logical framework, monitoring, proposal and report writing

Conditions:
Starting date: asap, ideally by 15 January 15th, 2016, open for dicussion
Intended duty stations: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania with frequent travels to the program locations and other areas of Tanzania
Duration of contract: 24 months (extendable)
