Business Development Officer – Dar es salaam – The Aga Khan University

The Business and Development Officer will be reporting to the Manager – Projects Office. S/ he will play key role in scouting for the new grants and external funding. Specifically the funding will mainly focus on Masters of Education (M. Ed) scholarships. This person should be able to assist the Director’s Office define long-term organizational strategic goals, build key stakeholder relationships, identify partnership opportunities, link the Projects Office with the potential funders and maintain extensive knowledge of current market conditions.

Working closely with the Manager Project Office, key responsibilities will include:
• Project scouting through Identifying trendsetting ideas by researching industry and related events, publications, and calls (calls for proposals/ invitations to bids) ; tracking individual contributors and their accomplishments and assess their relevance to lED’s priorities.
• Develop strategies to engage identified partners, clients, funders and wider stakeholders
• Scan and conduct visits to potential funders and make presentations about lED and share our priorities in development projects
• Locate, initiate new contacts and propose potential development partners to the project and research offices.
• Screen potential funding opportunities by analyzing strategies, requirements, potentials, and financials; evaluating options and resolving internal priorities.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
• Cross-reference partner contacts, discussions and leads with other Aga Khan
Development Network (AKDN) entities (identifying key relationship managers for example)
• Act as a point of information and reference for the institute when preparing to follow- up new leads and business opportunities.
• Maintain proposal database (solicited and unsolicited database), and inform faculty while preparing prospective proposals.

Others
• Report to the Project Manager of the lED on a regular basis and take lead in the preparation of quarterly reports, monthly updates at meetings and other reporting functions as required
• Represent the AKU-IED at key stakeholder meetings, professional forums and other events as required
• Assist the Regional office on ad hoc project work as agreed.
• Undertake any other duty as may be assigned by the lED Director and/or Project Manager.

Required Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess Bachelor in Marketing or relevant degree, MBA qualification from recognized university and have at least 3-5 years’ work experience in Project and Grant Management. The candidate must have Excellent interpersonal and team building skills.
In addition s/he should be proactive, efficient and should have the ability to communicate effectively in both English and Kiswahili.
